The Mighty Nile in it’s heart
The mighty River Nile, the longest river in the world, which flows through 11 countries in the North and Eastern part of Africa has its source in Uganda.
The source of the Nile is found in Jinja – a city dubbed as the “adventure capital of East Africa” because of the various thrilling and adrenaline-pumping activities you can do on the Nile River and along its banks.
This city is about an hour away from Kampala- the capital city and is a must-visit for thrill-seekers while on a vacation in Uganda. And it’s best to visit it during the dry months of December-March and June-October so that you can easily carry out adventurous activities on the Nile.
But because the area has a tropical climate like most of the country, it can rain in even the driest months as well as shine in the wet season, and the annual temperatures average 21.8°C /71.3°F. So, it’s possible to do all the fun water activities throughout the year in Jinja
Adrenaline Activities To Do
White Water Rafting
The grade 4 and 5 fierce rapids on the Nile offer a world-class and unforgettable rafting experience. You can choose between a half-day and a full-day expedition from reputable rafting companies that provide exciting cruises to all daredevils from first-timers to skilled rafters.

- Day 1
Transfer To Jinja
- Kampala – Ssezibwa falls
Our guide will pick you up from your home of residence/hotel at 6:30 am to have an early start, ensuring that you enjoy all the activities on the itinerary to the fullest. You will then travel eastwards to Jinja, stopping en route at Namawojolo roadside market to buy the delicious gonja (roasted plantain) before proceeding to Ssezibwa Falls.
- Ssezibwa Falls Experience
These beautiful falls are located in Mukono approximately 40 km from Kampala, and their down-rush rippling sound will welcome you upon reaching the site.
You’ll get to marvel at their beauty while enjoying the traditional folklore of how a woman gave birth to them, and also learn about their importance in the Buganda culture. And a walk through the tall fringing trees and the lush vegetation to the top of the falls will avail you of breathtaking views of the surrounding area and sightings of different birds.
- Nature Walk Through the Mabira Forest
At Mabira forest – one of the biggest rainforests in the country and the only one found outside of western and southern Uganda, you’ll take a nature walk along a suitable trail.
